Al Franken Cancels On Fellow Liberal Comedian … Again

Democratic Minnesota Sen. Al Franken is canceling an upcoming appearance on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” over racially charged comments Maher made, reports The Huffington Post.

Maher interviewed Nebraska Republican Sen. Ben Sasse last Friday, but things quickly went off the rails and spun out of control. The Nebraska native offered to have Maher out to his home state to “work in the fields,” to which Maher replied: “I’m a house ni**er.”

A spokesperson for Franken said the senator was happy to see Maher had apologized, but still believes the comments were insensitive and vastly inappropriate. This disgust has made Franken reconsider his appearance.
It’s the second time in a week that Franken was scheduled to sit down with a heavily criticized comedian in the public eye. It is also the second time he has decided not to appear because of media fallout.
Franken was also set for a public event with comedian Kathy Griffin, but after saying she “went too far” with her Trump photoshoot on CNN, Franken canceled on her, too.
Maher, who is known for saying outlandish and shocking things, has faced serious backlash for using the n-word, and the public outcry has become so great that many are still calling for his firing.

Maher still managed to keep his other guest, activist Symone Sanders and will also be hosting journalist David Gregory, rapper Ice-Cube, and Republican House member from Florida David Jolly.
