A young, enthusiastic journalist visited Marine Corps boot camp to learn how to make a bed and it went almost exactly how one might expect.

Amanda Steen, a reporter with the Staten Island Advance, went down to Parris Island, S.C., recently where she experienced first hand the proper way to make her bed, or “rack,” as it is known in the Corps.

Staff Sergeant Ryan Granados, a senior drill instructor, attempted to show Amanda the proper way to make one’s bed, nice in tight with perfect 45 degree angles.

Staff Sgt. Granados had to repeatedly remind Steen to respond to his commands and questions, explaining that,”If I tell you to do something, that’s ‘aye sir,’ if I ask you a question, that’s ‘yes sir, no sir.'”

At the end of the video, Staff Sgt. Granados informs Steen that it was probably the worst rack that he has ever seen. The senior drill instructor seemed to go easy on Steen, something probably not afforded to actual recruits.

Parris Island is where male recruits living east of the Mississippi and female recruits from across the country go to receive their initial training into the Corp. The Island has a rich history, where over 200,000 Marines trained during World War II and another 200,000 trained for Vietnam.
