A pair of explosions in the Russia’s St. Petersburg metro have left 10 dead and at least 30 injured, according to various reports.
The explosions left people dead and injured across a metro platform, subsequently filling it with smoke. Several bystanders took cell phone videos of the aftermath.

“According to the very first preliminary information, about 10 people were killed in the explosion,” a source told Russia’s TASS news agency.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is aware of the explosions, according to Russia’s state-run Russia 24. Putin was in St. Petersburg speaking at an event Monday, but it is unclear if he was in the city at the time of the incident.
One video shows a mangled train car, its doors twisted apart by at least one of the explosions.

One of the explosions occurred on the Sennaya Ploshchad station, in the center of St. Petersburg.

The cause of the explosions is unclear, however, the use of dual bombs is a common tactic used by radical Islamist terrorist groups, such as the Islamic State.
St. Petersburg is Russia’s second largest city, with a population of approximately 5 million people. It is a key port city, banking hub and cultural center for Russia.
