Dallas Newspaper On Trump: ‘Not Qualified To Serve’

A major Dallas newspaper rejected Republican nominee Donald Trump, even though the paper in question has endorsed every Republican candidate for president since 1964.

The editorial board of the Dallas Morning News (DMN) argues that it continues to support Republican values, but that Trump isn’t a Republican. “What does it mean to be a Republican today? With Donald Trump as the party’s new standard-bearer, it’s impossible to say,” the editorial said.

Trump is “at odds with nearly every GOP ideal this newspaper holds dear,” the letter continued, before concluding, “Donald Trump is no Republican and is certainly no conservative.”

The editorial condemned Trump’s strong immigration stance, specifically the proposal to ban muslims from entering the country. Trump’s trade policies regarding China didn’t escape the paper’s ire either.

“It’s not easy to offer a shorthand list of such tenets, since Trump flips from one side to the other, issue after issue, sometimes within a single news cycle. Regardless, his ideas are so far from Republicanism that they have spawned a new description: Trumpism,” the editorial said.

“Donald Trump is not qualified to serve as president and does not deserve your vote,” the letter concludes.

The Dallas Morning News joins another long-time Republican paper, the Richmond Times Dispatch, who decided Friday not to endorse Trump, the first time the Dispatch failed to endorse a Republican candidate in decades.

The Trump campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.
