A major Moscow newspaper trolled the U.S. by writing a story on the Department of State’s protest of Russia’s use of an air base in Iran with the URL slug, “Cry Kerry Cry.”

The paper, called Lenta.ru, is based in Moscow and has a large readership in Russia.

On Tuesday, the paper put out a piece with the headline, “State Dept Disappointed That Russia Uses Iran’s Air Base.”

The piece itself was fairly routine coverage of a statement issued by a State Department spokesman, namely that the department views, “Russia’s use of an Iranian air base to carry out military strikes in Syria” as “unfortunate but not surprising.”

That the State Department phrased Russian activity in Iran as “unfortunate” is perhaps why Lenta.ru decided to feature the URL slug: “Cry Kerry Cry,” in an effort to troll the State Department. Russia is trouncing the U.S. in Syria, and the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad has experienced a major resurgence.
