Authorities evacuated Union Station in Washington, D.C., Wednesday afternoon due to a bomb threat, according to local police.
Frightened commuters ran out of the station during the evacuation as emergency crews and bomb sniffing dogs descended on scene. Metro Transit Police K-9 units worked with Amtrak Police to investigate a report of a suspicious package left in the vicinity of the Amtrak platforms, reports WJLA.
The evacuation began during the afternoon rush-hour just after 5 p.m. An unidentified police officer told Reuters, “We got a bomb threat.”
Authorities found nothing upon investigating the scene, according to NBC4. Metro’s red line is running uninterrupted through the station. Evacuees are returning to the station.
