VIDEO: Watch Tanks, Helicopters, Gunfire In Streets Of Turkey

Turkey is in chaos right now, with supporters of President Recep Erdogan clashing with coup d’etat forces in the Turkish military. The final victor remains uncertain, but countless videos are going up showing violence and chaos in the streets.

The first signs of the coup came Friday night, when Turkish military forces closed down the Bosphorus Bridge and several other key transit points in Istanbul.

This video shows Turkish tanks rapidly moving through the streets of Istanbul, destination and alignment unknown.

Tanks were out in force in the Turkish capital of Ankara as well.

Another early sign of the coup cam in Ankara when a helicopter fired on Turkey’s military intelligence headquarters. It’s unclear which faction the helicopter was aligned with.

The tanks weren’t afraid to break a few eggs. Video in Istanbul shows a tank smashing a car while protesters surround it.

As the coup has progressed, thousands of people have poured into the streets in major Turkish cities, apparently responding to Erdogan’s call for supporters to resist the coup. In Istanbul, repeated bursts of gunfire suggest that protesters may have been fired at, or that coup and anti-coup forces have engaged in open battle.

Despite these outbursts of violence, protests continued and an apparent counter-coup effort by the government began. A video posted to Twitter allegedly shows Turkish soldiers taken into custody by Turkish police, who are believed to be loyal to Erdogan.

Numerous photos, meanwhile, show protesters piling on top of tanks. Another photo shows demonstrators amassing on the tarmac of Istanbul Ataturk Airport. The airport was closed down early in the coup, in an apparent effort to halt movement and possibly to keep Erdogan from arriving in the city.
