Republican Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert’s latest bill is already catching eyes – and we’re just imagining a scene akin to a famous “Saturday Night Live” sketch if that bill she introduced Wednesday becomes law.
Boebert launched herself into the public consciousness in a 2019 incident where she went viral after she told then-Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke point-blank, “Hell, no,” when it came to his proposal for an Australia-style law targeting modern semiautomatic firearms. That eventually propelled her into the United States House of Representatives, where she’s now co-chair of the Second Amendment Caucus.
Boebert wants to zero out every remaining tax from the National Firearms Act (NFA), according to a Wednesday release. Boebert’s bill, the Freedom from Taxes Act or HR 8921, does the same thing for “machine guns” and “destructive devices,” and could go into the next reconciliation bill sent to President Donald Trump.
Proud to introduce new legislation that will eliminate the remaining NFA taxes on machine guns and destructive devices.
Taxing our constitutional rights is unacceptable and unconstitutional, it’s past time we put an end to it! pic.twitter.com/fIMj24uM3r

The reconciliation bill signed into law by Trump on July 4, 2025, contained provisions that reduced the taxes on suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns and guns described as “any other weapon” to $0 after the Senate Parliamentarian struck language that removed those items from any coverage of the 1934 NFA.
Of course, the elimination of those taxes has led to a number of lawsuits from pro-Second Amendment groups, seeking to have courts strike down the registration requirement for items covered under the NFA. Gun rights groups are already praising her for introducing the bill on X.
Seriously, was she daydreaming about standing outside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) headquarters as the agents who once handled the NFA section move on to new duties that don’t involve making life difficult for those who wish to… fully exercise their Second Amendment rights, saying, “Buh-bye,” as David Spade and Helen Hunt did in a famous Saturday Night Live sketch?
Imagine putting the ATF’s NFA section on the road to being… well, if not out of work, maybe doing something more… productive for their salaries, which come from our tax dollars.
WATCH:
Now, Boebert hasn’t immediately responded to a request for comment and additional information on this bill, but we will certainly be tracking it and keeping you posted! But until then, “buh-bye.”
