“The Breakfast Club” host Charlamagne Tha God acknowledged on Monday that he had an excellent experience with Immigration and Customs Enforcement at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Friday.

President Donald Trump’s administration deployed ICE agents to airports to support Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents amid the ongoing partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Despite Charlamagne praising ICE on his show, he chalked up their kindness to an election conspiracy.

LISTEN:

“When I flew out of LaGuardia Friday, I ain’t see no TSA agents,” Charlamagne said. “ICE was doing everything.”

Co-host DJ Envy asked how Charlamagne’s experience was.

“I mean, they were great to be honest with you … they were. For that particular terminal … they were being extra nice like Chick-fil-A workers,” Charlamagne said. “I was saying to myself, I’m like, ‘There is no way in hell this is the same ICE agents that was on the streets of places like Minnesota with the mask on.'”

“Like they not wearing masks, like they being super nice. I think it’s a psy-op for the midterms,” he added. “Because if you put them in the airports and they’re super nice and they’re helpful and they got things running efficiently, when he says we’re going to have them at the polls in November, nobody gon’ think twice about it.”

Senate Democrats voted for the partial shutdown on Feb. 14 after immigration enforcement-related shootings in January, demanding a list of immigration reforms in return for fully funding the DHS.

The shutdown caused hundreds of TSA agents to quit their jobs after working for weeks without a paycheck. Trump issued an executive order on Friday requiring TSA agents be paid during the shutdown.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday that Trump wants Congress to end their two-week vacation and finally reopen the DHS.

White House border czar Tom Homan said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that he had not been involved in any conversations regarding ICE’s presence at polling sites during the midterm elections.
