President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that John Deere will invest $70 million to build a new excavator factory in North Carolina that will manufacture the only excavators made entirely in the United States.

Trump kicked off a series of campaign stops ahead of November’s midterm elections by holding a rally in Iowa. During his speech, Trump said John Deere will construct a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility that he described as among the best in the world. He predicted the project would deliver significant economic returns and expand American industrial capacity.

“I’m pleased to announce one more historic investment, the great American company that we just talked about is doing so much. We have a lot of very successful companies in here,” Trump said. “But I know it’s a very special deal because John Deere [is] doing [a] $70 million factory in North Carolina. It’s brand new, the best in the world. And I think it’s going to pay off very, very big.”

Trump said the factory will mark the first time excavators are produced entirely on U.S. soil, ending reliance on foreign manufacturing for the heavy equipment.

“And if it doesn’t, I have nothing to do with it. But if it does, I’m going to take full credit. But what it is is an excavator factory, as I understand it. And it’s going to be the only excavator factory,” Trump added. “We all know I love those excavators. Believe it or not, I know a lot about them. We don’t make them here. This is going to be the only excavator entirely made in the United States of America. I love it.”

In May 2025, John Deere pledged to invest $20 billion in the United States over the next decade. During the company’s second-quarter 2025 earnings call that month, Chairman and CEO John May announced the investment and said the plan will expand production, grow the workforce, and upgrade facilities.

Since 2019, John Deere has poured $2.5 billion into domestic manufacturing facilities and directed roughly $80 billion toward U.S.-based suppliers, according to the company website. The manufacturer added another $100 million in capital spending at American plants in 2025.
