Fox News host Sean Hannity led the audience of Fox Nation’s annual “Patriot Awards” show in a rendition of the Frank Sinatra song “New York, New York” Thursday that targeted Democratic Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani of New York City.

Mandani defeated former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York and Republican mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa Tuesday in the race to replace outgoing independent Mayor Eric Adams. Hannity, who announced he was leaving the Big Apple in January 2024, admitted to insomnia when he came up with the lyrics he set to the tune of the Sinatra classic.

“I knew comrade Marxist commie Mamdani was going to win. I knew. So one night, I have insomnia I can’t, I don’t sleep very well,” Hannity said. “One night I get up and I’m thinking, all right, how am I going to deal with this? You know, what can I do? And so I started thinking, Frank Sinatra, New York, New York. Now, I go, I Google it, I print it out, I rewrite the words to this – one of the greatest songs that honors New York of all time. I’m going to need your help because I can’t sing to save my life.”

“Start spreading the news; I’m leaving today,” Hannity led the audience in singing, “No longer wannabe a part of it, high taxed New York. These commie Mamdani blues are longing to leave; right to the very heart of it, bye-bye, New York.”

Fellow Fox News host “Special Report” anchor Bret Baier has gone viral for performing rap songs on several occasions, appearing on stage to drop some beats as far back as 2011.

First lady Melania Trump received the event’s Patriot of the Year award, while Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk received the inaugural Charlie Kirk Legacy Award, presented by Hannity, country music star Jason Aldean and Aldean’s wife, Brittany.

“Fox and Friends” co-host Ainsley Earhardt, who got engaged to Hannity in December 2024, later said that Hannity initially had a friend record the song before he decided to lead the audience in singing.

Hannity targeted then-Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California with a vulgar rant at the 2023 Patriot Awards held in Nashville, joking that his name could easily be confused with “shit.”

“By the way, my bosses are here. A lot of you complained to my bosses and you say, ‘Hannity curses on the air because he says it’s a complete shitshow,’” Hannity explained at the 2023 event. “But if you listen closely, I’m saying, because Adam Schiff is a piece of shit, but if you say Schiff and shit together, you know, you can mix it up. But I never said it wrong on TV. I said it’s a complete Adam Schiff show. If you say it fast enough, you’ll understand, right?”

Mamdani outlined an agenda centered on an array of left-wing policies during the campaign, including establishing government-run grocery stores, free child care and free use of transit buses, telling voters that the handouts would be paid for by increased taxes on predominantly white and wealthy neighborhoods.
