‘He Did It’: James Carville Says Trump ‘Deserves Some Credit’ For Israel-Hamas Peace Deal

Democratic strategist James Carville said on “Politics War Room” Wednesday that President Donald Trump should receive plaudits for his peace deal between Israel and Hamas.

The Trump administration’s deal resulted in the release of all the surviving hostages Hamas took during their Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack on Israel. Carville noted in a video of the podcast posted to the Politicon YouTube channel that the Trump administration achieved a deal its predecessors could not.

“[S]topping this, bringing these hostages back … you can say, well, it may not last that long, but you know what? He did it. And he deserves some credit for it,” Carville said. “They just do … Look at all the credit that [former President] Jimmy Carter got for Camp David, that [former President] George H.W. Bush got when the Berlin Wall fell.”

“They’re having a legitimate kind of moment in the sun and that’s fine. And hopefully this thing will hold,” he added. “We’ll see. But I don’t have any problem with saying that they did something which, as of now, other people failed to do.”

Other Democrats have also praised the Trump administration for accomplishing the peace deal, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during a CBS News special presentation on Friday.

“I really commend President Trump and his administration, as well as Arab leaders in the region for making the commitment to the 20-point plan and seeing a path forward for what’s often called the day after,” Clinton said.

However, many Democrats acknowledged and praised the peace push while neglecting to credit Trump entirely, such as former President Barack Obama in a Thursday X post. CNN host Abby Phillip on Saturday called out the former president for his omission on her show “Table for Five.”

“Honestly, it’s not unfair to say if President Obama is going to write a whole post about a peace deal, maybe he should acknowledge the president that brokered it,” Phillip said.

The Trump administration’s peace plan demands that “a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee” govern Gaza instead of Hamas or analogous militants. The president warned during a Tuesday press conference about repercussions for Hamas if it refused to disarm.

“Well, they’re going to disarm, because they said they were going to disarm,” Trump told a reporter. “And if they don’t disarm, we will disarm them.”

“They know I’m not playing games,” he added.
