Attempted Trump assassin Ryan Routh tried to stab himself in the neck with a pen when his guilty verdict was read, according to reports from the courtroom.
Routh picked up a pen as jurors were leaving the courtroom and started trying to stab himself, prompting marshals to pull him out of the courtroom, according to the Associated Press.
Marshals shackled him at the waist and ankles before bringing Routh back into the courtroom, according to Fox News.
“Dad I love you don’t do anything,” his daughter, Sara Routh, screamed, according to the AP. “I’ll get you out. He didn’t hurt anybody.”
Routh’s daughter ran out of the courtroom in tears, swearing at the media.
“Get the fuck out of my face,” she said in a video.
Routh was convicted Tuesday on five counts, including attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer and several gun charges.
He represented himself throughout the 12 day trial, presenting his own opening and closing statements and cross-examining witnesses. Routh, whose defense strategy focused on proving his peacefulness, non-violence and gentleness, was reprimanded numerous times by Judge Aileen Cannon for veering off-topic.
