‘Makes Me Sick’: Bill Maher Blasts Left’s Elitism As ‘Stupidest Thing’ It Does

Comedian Bill Maher condemned the left on a Monday episode of his “Club Random” podcast for its unwillingness to convene with people on the right.

Maher received left-wing backlash for attending a March dinner at the White House with President Donald Trump, UFC President Dana White and musician Kid Rock. The comedian said on his podcast that the criticism of his dinner attendance perfectly illustrated what he views as the left’s most self-defeating tendency.

“Your shot — doing nothing, not engaging — has zero chance. Mine — this guy, I’m telling you, I know this cat a lot better than I did before. He’s a people person. He talks to people. You have to keep the lines open,” Maher said. “The stupidest thing the left does — and this dinner is a perfect example of it — is having this attitude toward the right that: ‘We won’t even break bread with you. We are so far above you that we won’t even sit down at the same table with you!’ That is their attitude — and that makes me sick too!”

“I’m glad I break bread … it’s what makes them hate the left so much, that they think that they’re deplorables,” he continued. “‘We’re deplorables. And you won’t even sit down to dinner with us.’ Well, good luck. See how far that gets you.”

On the April 12 edition of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Maher said that Trump was more approachable than recent Democratic presidents, arguing that was one of the reasons the party is currently so unpopular.

“Honestly, I voted for Clinton and Obama, but I would never feel comfortable talking to them the way I was able to talk with Donald Trump,” he said during a 13-minute report on the dinner. “That’s just how it went down, make of it what you will. Me, I feel it’s emblematic of why the Democrats are so unpopular these days.”

“Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator Larry David wrote an April satirical New York Times op-ed comparing Maher’s dinner with Trump to dining with Adolf Hitler. Maher fired back on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” shortly after.

“I don’t need to be lectured on who Donald Trump is. Just the fact that I met him in person didn’t change that and the fact that I reported honestly is not a sin either. But, you know, to use the Hitler thing, first of all, I just think it’s kind of insulting to the six million dead Jews,” Maher told host Piers Morgan. “That should kind of be in its own place in history and you know, I know some people can say ‘well we’re just comparing it in this way.’ Well, it’s an argument you kind of lost just as it started.”
