Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Bronx office was vandalized by pro-Palestinian activists late Sunday night after she voted against a proposed amendment cutting U.S. funding for Israel.
The congresswoman’s office in the East Bronx was covered in red paint, along with a sign reading, “AOC funds genocide in Gaza,” according to the New York Post. Images published by the Post show various paint splatters over the front of the building and the sidewalk as well.
A self-proclaimed anti-Israel group, Boogie Down Liberation Front, appeared to take credit for the incident. “The Bronx is sick and tired of people like AOC and Ritchie Torres using us as a stepping stone for their own political careers,” they said in a statement given to the Post that was published on X by an independent journalist.
“The Bronx stands with the people of Palestine and we denounce the hypocrisy of AOC who voted to fund Israel’s ongoing genocide and starvation campaign in Gaza. FUCK AOC!” they continued.
The incident comes days after she broke ranks with her fellow progressive “Squad” Democratic members and voted alongside 421 other House representatives against funding cuts to the Israeli Defense Forces.
Ocasio-Cortez’s office did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The representative, who has been a fervent critic of Israel, explained her vote on X, stating, “It does nothing to cut off offensive aid to Israel nor end the flow of US munitions being used in Gaza.”
“What it does do is cut off defensive Iron Dome capacities while allowing the actual bombs killing Palestinians to continue. I have long stated that I do not believe that adding to the death count of innocent victims to this war is constructive to its end,” she added.
The backlash against AOC also comes after Israeli Defense Forces hit Gaza’s only Catholic church in a strike from an IDF tank on July 17. Two people were killed and four others were injured, including parish priest Father Gabriel Romanelli.
