Nearly 6 in 10 voters each said most Democrats and Republicans in Congress do not deserve reelection, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS released Thursday.

Among those polled, only 41% of voters said most congressional Democrats deserve reelection, according to the CNN survey. Meanwhile, 58% of voters said that most Democrats in Congress do not deserve reelection, according to the same survey.

Additionally, 60% of voters said they think that most Republican members of Congress do not deserve to be reelected, according to the poll.

Of those surveyed, only 28% said they view the Democratic Party favorably, marking the lowest favorability rating for Democrats in the history of CNN’s polling. Though, just 33% of respondents said they held a favorable view of the GOP, according to the poll.

The CNN poll follows a growing number of reports that some Democrats have a grim outlook on the future of their party. Some elected officials in the Democratic Party have recently signaled they are doubtful that the party will be able to retake the Senate in the 2026 midterm elections.

Several other polls released this year have shown that satisfaction with congressional Democrats’ leadership has been plummeting among Americans. On Friday, former President Barack Obama said he believes that Democrats need to “toughen up.”

Some leftist Democrats are seeking to make Democratic New York mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, a socialist, the new face of the party.

The CNN poll was conducted by SSRS from July 10-13 among a random national sample of 1,057 US adults drawn from a probability-based panel. Surveys were either conducted online or by telephone with a live interviewer. Results among all adults have a margin of sampling error of ±3.5 percentage points.
