Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia initiated another attempt to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday, according to a statement she delivered on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Mayorkas has overseen the border security and immigration policies of the Biden administration, which have received tremendous criticism from congressional Republicans amid high numbers of illegal entries into the United States by foreign nationals over the southern border. On Wednesday, Greene introduced her resolution to impeach Mayorkas for a third time as a question of privilege, which means that it could receive a vote by Friday.

“Rather than adhering to an oath he took to defend and secure our country and uphold the Constitution when he was sworn in as Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas has engaged in a pattern of conduct that is incompatible with the laws of the United States,” reads the resolution. It accuses Mayorkas of failing to maintain “operational control” of the southern border, claims that he has enabled an “invasion” of border states by processing illegal immigrants who cross into them and suggests he is culpable for the deaths of thousands of Americans by fentanyl, which is frequently smuggled over the southern border into the country.

In her statement on the floor, Greene read the resolution as introduced.

“Secretary Mayorkas continues to be laser-focused on the safety and security of our nation.  This baseless attack is completely without merit and a harmful distraction from our critical national security priorities,” wrote a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Every day, the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security work tirelessly to keep America safe. They need Congress to stop wasting time and do its job by reforming our broken immigration system, reauthorizing vital tools for DHS, and passing the Administration’s supplemental request to properly resource the Department’s critical work to stop fentanyl and further secure our borders.”

Greene’s resolution is identical to another she had introduced on Nov. 9 to impeach Mayorkas as a privileged motion. That resolution was referred to the Committee on Homeland Security by a bipartisan vote of the House on Nov. 13, with eight Republicans voting in favor.

The resolution is Greene’s third attempt to impeach Mayorkas. Other members who have attempted to do so are Republican Reps. Andy Biggs of Arizona, Pat Fallon of Texas and Clay Higgins of Louisiana.

Greene has introduced several resolutions seeking to censure or expel members of Congress, such as Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Jamaal Bowman of New York and Maxine Waters of California as well as impeach high-ranking government officials, such as Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray. She also introduced articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden on his first full day in office, on Jan. 21, 2021, and has introduced several others in his term, thereafter
