A post shared on Facebook claims all charges against the alleged Kenosha, Wisconsin, shooter Kyle Rittenhouse have been dropped.

Verdict: False

Rittenhouse faces six counts in Wisconsin related to his alleged involvement in the Kenosha shooting. There is no evidence any of these charges have been dropped.

Fact Check:

Wisconsin prosecutors charged Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old from Illinois, with six counts, including first-degree intentional homicide, according to the criminal complaint against him. The charges came after Rittenhouse allegedly shot three people during a night of unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin in August, killing two, CNN reported. The unrest was sparked by the Aug. 23 police shooting of Jacob Blake.

Now, a post being shared claims all charges against Rittenhouse have been dropped. It features three photos of the teenager.

The Daily Caller News Foundation found no news reporting that indicates the charges against Rittenhouse have been dropped. Considering the case made national headlines, if the prosecutors had done so, it almost certainly would have been picked up by the media. The charges appear as active on the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access website.

The confusion likely stems from the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office in Illinois announcing that Rittenhouse will not face gun charges in his home state. The Oct. 13 statement said that an investigation conducted by the Antioch Police Department “revealed the gun used in the Kenosha shooting was purchased, stored and used in Wisconsin.”

“Kyle Rittenhouse, 17, of Antioch, remains held in a juvenile detention center in Lake County without bond due to pending criminal charges in Kenosha,” the statement says. “Rittenhouse is due back in Lake County court on Oct. 30 for an extradition hearing.”
