Disney Rids American History Display Of Confederate Flag

Walt Disney World has removed a version of the Confederate flag from a stage show about American history.
Epcot’s American Adventure no longer shows the banner in a flag display during its 30-minute American Adventure show, reported the Orlando Sentinel. The dramatic retelling features 35 audio-animatronics figures, including Frederick Douglas and Mark Twain, who take the audience on a journey through American history that touches on key events — including the civil war.
The flag was the third version of the Confederate flag, which is mostly white, with the stars and bars in the upper left corner and a thick red bar on the right side. Disney confirmed to the Sentinel it had removed the flag, but did not comment on the removal.
“I think in this day and age we shouldn’t be promoting a part of our history we’re not proud of,” a tourist outside the show told the Orlando Sentinel, saying she agreed with Disney’s decision.
The news comes on the heels of a decision by the South Carolina legislature to take down the Confederate flag that is flying on statehouse grounds, following the deadly shooting in a black Charleston church that left nine dead.
