Head Of Arizona Schools Didn’t Take Oath Of Office On Religious Book

The head of Arizona public schools took her oath of office on a children’s moose book Monday.

Democrat Kathy Hoffman took the oath to become the Arizona superintendent of public instruction on “Too Many Moose!” by Lisa Bakos, The Hill reported Tuesday.

“It’s a fantastic book that helped develop their [student’s] communication skills and was critical to their success,” Hoffman tweeted Monday. “As an educator, I’m proud to have taken my oath of office on this beloved storybook!”

Hoffman is the first Democrat to hold the superintendent position in more than two decades, according to The Hill.

The former speech therapist for a public school district in the state supports increasing teacher pay and paid parental leave, The Arizona Republic reported. Hoffman also hopes to audit the Department of Education to make sure funds are spent properly.

Arizona public school teachers have been demanding for increased salaries in the Red for Ed movement.
