The FBI reportedly did not interview Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh or his accuser Christine Blasey Ford because of a lack of clear authority from the White House to conduct the interviews, “two people with knowledge of the matter” told Bloomberg.
That claim comes after President Donald Trump said “the FBI should interview anybody that they want, within reason” on Monday, reported Bloomberg.
“I want them to do a very comprehensive investigation, whatever that means, according to the senators and the Republicans and the Republican majority,” Trump said in the Rose Garden on Monday. “I want them to do that. I want it to be comprehensive. I think it’s actually a good thing for Judge Kavanaugh.”
Kavanaugh and Ford’s testimony from the Sept. 27 Senate Judiciary hearing provided the information the FBI needs, the sources told Bloomberg. One source told Bloomberg that the FBI is restricted by an “initial directive” to look into plausible sexual misconduct allegations only.
Senators will be able to view the FBI report as of Thursday morning and will vote Friday with a final confirmation that could come as early as Saturday, reported NBC News.
Ford alleges Kavanaugh pinned her down and attempted to remove her clothing when they were both minors. Kavanaugh has continued to deny any allegations of sexual assault.
The White House did not immediately respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
