Two unidentified people in London face charges Friday for allegedly performing a female genital mutilation (FGM) procedure on a 3-year-old girl.
A man, 42, and a woman, 36, who live in east London, face five charges including performing FGM on the young girl and failing to protect her from the procedure, The Guardian reported.
The woman, originally from Uganda, faced an additional charge of possessing pornographic images of people having sex with animals and publishing videos of sexually explicit content with animals. She is also charged with allegedly distributing indecent video of children.
The man from Ghana is charged with possessing pornographic videos of people having sex with animals. He is also charged with possessing an indecent video of a child.
The two were not identified for legal reasons.
They were previously charged with performing FGM procedures Aug. 28, 2017. The two are currently held in custody and will appear in court Aug. 31.
England’s National Health Service reported that there were 9,179 cases relating to FGM from 2016 to 2017. The individual with FGM was either treated, treatment was given, or the woman gave birth to a baby.
