Former Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Charlie Dent went after pro-lifers who want strong borders on CNN Monday, calling them hypocritical for not speaking out.
“New Day” host Alisyn Camerota broached the subject of hypocrisy among the pro-life community and asked Dent if pro-lifers’ beliefs on immigration are ironic.
“Is there some irony about this playing out and people who are so adamantly pro-life while children are being separated from their parents … at the border?” Camerota said. “And that President Trump is supposedly trying to deal with that, but there are more than 2,000 children separated who have been from their parents and they have not been reunited and we don’t know if they’re going to be.”
“It’s pretty hard to get awfully sanctimonious on the pro-life issue while you’re witnessing children being separated from their parents,” Dent said.
“That’s an irony and a real contradiction. It’s pretty hard to go out there and wave the flag of being pro-family while watching these families be torn apart. But then you can just fall back and say ‘hey but I’m pro-life. I guess that makes it all better.’ Well, it really doesn’t,” he concluded.
