Conservative Immigration Bill Fails The House

A hardline immigration bill authored by Republican Virginia Rep. Bob Goodlatte failed the House in a 193-231 vote Thursday.
The bill would have ended the diversity visa program, reduced chain migration through limiting qualifications for family visas, and required employers to use E-verify.
No Democrats voted for the bill, which had the backing of President Donald Trump, and was the more conservative of two proposals that were to be voted on Thursday.
The bill proposed by Republican leadership in the House is the more moderate proposal. It would create a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients and provide some wall funding. Trump also said that he would support this bill. The vote on this bill was pushed back to Friday.
Both bills come after Trump signed an executive order Wednesday, mandating that families be kept together when detained.
