Merkel Calls For Emergency EU Migration Meeting

Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel called for an emergency European Union meeting to discuss migration, according to TIME Monday.

Merkel, the leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), will meet with European leaders June 28 in order to implement new border restrictions, TIME reported. Merkel’s coalition, the Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CSU), could potentially be broken up over migration disputes. The chancellor will go to the meeting because of pressure from Horst Seehofer, the German minister of the interior and chairman of the CSU. Seehofer wants to implement a new policy where police can turn away asylum seekers from the German border if they already have asylum in another country.

“Migration can only be solved on a European level, it’s a European issue,” Merkel said during a press conference in Berlin Monday. Merkel said if Germany tightened its borders without the EU’s agreement, there might be negative effects due to restricting passport-free movement around the member countries, Politico added.

President Donald Trump also issued a tweet Monday regarding Germany’s migration issues, stressing that it might break up Merkel’s coalition.

The people of Germany are turning against their leadership as migration is rocking the already tenuous Berlin coalition. Crime in Germany is way up. Big mistake made all over Europe in allowing millions of people in who have so strongly and violently changed their culture!

Seehofer met with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz calling for a new “axis” between Germany, Austria and Italy to combat illegal immigration on June 13.
