Facebook un-suspended a user Monday after giving her the boot for a post from November 2015 in which she mocked terrorists.
The social media giant suspended Israeli activist Forest Rain Marcia for the 2015 post in which the user appeared to be satirizing terrorists.
“The terrorists are thinking: ‘OMG, how many people do we have to kill around here to finally get our message across?'” Marcia wrote on Facebook.
Facebook informed her Saturday that the post violated their community standards.
A Facebook spokeswoman said the platform allows conversations about terrorism, so long as posts do not promote or advertise such activity. She also said the company removed Marcia’s post by accident, mistaking it for promotion of terrorism, but subsequently reinstated both the post and the user’s account.
Marcia, as well as the user who posted about her suspension, did not respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.
Marcia’s case resembled that of pro-Israel blogger Jon Sutz, to whom Facebook administered a one-week suspension for a post the user had made poking fun at Palestinian martyrdom. Sutz’s ban came three years after his post. The social media company unsuspended Sutz after TheDCNF got in touch, but it remains unclear whether this action came because of TheDCNF’s query.
Users have also received penalties for criticizing Palestinian terrorism on other social media platforms. Twitter alleged that a user violated its rule forbidding “hateful conduct” with tweets in which the user characterized Hamas as a group comprised of murdering, kidnapping and “chanting Islamist rapists” and asserted that the “far-left” allied itself with “shameless Islamist rapists who openly seek genocide, the subjugation of women, and the lynching of gays and religious minorities.” Twitter locked the user’s account, but unlocked it after TheDCNF reached out.
