Man Arrested After Allegedly Sending Out ‘Punish A Muslim Day’ Letters

A 35-year-old man was arrested after allegedly sending out “punish a Muslim day” letters in England, police announced Tuesday.
Police arrested a man from Lincoln after he allegedly sent out threatening messages calling for inflicting punishments on the Muslim communities in England, The Guardian reported. The man included a point system in the letter for getting benefits if you punished a Muslim on April 3. He is facing charges, including suspicion of conspiring and soliciting to commit murder and sending out threatening messages.
“We understand that people may be concerned following this activity. However, we would like to reassure communities that this activity is a result of an ongoing, intelligence led investigation and was not in response to an immediate threat,” said police.
“We take religious hatred extremely seriously and my officers will be carrying out a full and thorough investigation in response to these reports,” Martin Snowden, the person in charge of the counter-terrorism policing unit in the north-east, said. Snowden also said that the letters “seek to divide us.”
The letters sent out in London, the East Midlands, and Yorkshire said, “They have hurt you, they have made your loved ones suffer. They have caused you pain and heartache. What are you going to do about it? Are you a ‘sheep’ like the vast majority of the population?”
The attackers allegedly would get 25 points if they remove a headscarf from a Muslim woman, 50 points if they throw acid at a Muslim, 500 points if they kill a Muslim, 1,000 points if they bomb a mosque, and 2,500 points if they nuke Mecca, Huffington Post writer Rowaida Abdelaziz wrote on Twitter.
