Hawke said the country is in turmoil over the gun debate and reiterated how hard it is to sell a movie to the public if the characters aren’t packing heat.
“You realize how much our identity has been wrapped up, about what we want, and how we see people, and how hard it is to sell a movie without a gun,” Hawke said. “No wonder we’re in turmoil over this subject.”
