El Cajon, Calif., Mayor Bill Wells said on “Fox & Friends” Friday that Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown should stop playing politics with people’s lives and rescind his sanctuary state policies.
“The governor can deflect all he wants, but the fact is this isn’t about racism This isn’t even about immigration. This is about safety,” Wells said. “As mayors of cities, we don’t have the luxury of playing politics. We have to keep our citizens safe.”
“These policies that the governor and some of these wild eyed people in Sacramento are trying to push down our throats, has nothing to do with safety. It has to do with politics,” he continued.

Wells said his constituents and other Californians are reacting negatively to the state’s sanctuary policies and are concerned they may end up drawing a violent and unstable element into their communities.
“It’s just ridiculous and it’s frightening,” Wells said. “I’m hearing that people really care about this problem. They don’t want MS-13 gang members being released into their communities. Since the last 8 months, over 89 MS-13 gang members have been released into California communities.”
“That didn’t have to happen” he concluded. “That’s very dangerous.”
