The founder of Starbucks said Wednesday that unconscious bias training is just the first step for the company as it tries to make amends over two black men getting arrested at one of their locations.

“I’m embarrassed, ashamed. I think what occurred is reprehensible at every level. I take it personally, and we’re committed to making it right. The announcement we made yesterday to do significant training is just the beginning,” Starbucks founder and executive chairman Howard Schultz  told “CBS This Morning” co host Gayle King.

The coffee corporation recently promised to shut down 8,000 stores for a day to give employees implicit bias training to make amends for a manager calling the police on two black men waiting in the store. The manager, who since left the company, reportedly called the police because the men refused to leave the store and wanted to use the bathroom without paying for something.

Schultz added that while the decision to close down the stores will cost millions, he simply views it as an “investment.”

“It will cost millions of dollars, but I’ve always viewed this and things like this as not an expense, but an investment in our people and our company. And we’re better than this,” he went on.
