President Donald Trump gave former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney Scooter Libby a presidential pardon Friday.

“I don’t know Mr. Libby, but for years I have heard that he has been treated unfairly. Hopefully, this full pardon will help rectify a very sad portion of his life,” Trump told reporters Friday.

Libby was reportedly one of several people to leak that Valerie Plame, the wife of dogged Bush-critic Joseph Wilson, was a CIA operative. U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton gave Libby a sentence of up to 30 months in prison, hit him with a fine of $250,000, and required Libby to perform 400 hours of community service.

The former chief of staff additionally lost his law license, but he was able to get it back in November 2016. President George W. Bush commuted Libby’s sentence, but he still had to pay the fine, perform the community service, and he was on probation for two years.
