A Texas man pleaded guilty Tuesday to trying to bomb a Confederate statue in the summer of 2017.

Twenty-six year-old Houston resident Andrew C.E. Schneck pleaded guilty to attempting “to damage the statue significantly,” reported The Associated Press.

A park ranger discovered Schneck kneeling with two boxes of wires and duct tape, as well as a liquid explosive near a Confederate statue in Houston’s Hermann Park in August, reported KTSA. Schneck openly admitted to trying to blow up the statue of Confederate lieutenant Richard Dowling.

Schneck will be sentenced on June 22 and faces five to 20 years of prison time in addition to a fine not exceeding $250,000. The man is taking mood stabilizing medicine and is also serving a five-year probationary sentence he received in 2014 after pleading guilty to incorrectly stockpiling explosives.
