The Afghan capital was rocked by another deadly bombing Wednesday, as a suicide bomber murdered dozens and injured many more.

The attacker blew himself up outside Kabul University after he was stopped by security forces on his way to Sakhi shrine, where locals had gathered for Persian New Year, according to CNN, Kabul police spokesman Basir Mojahid. The fatal blast killed 29 and wounded another 52 people, Ministry of Public Health spokesman Wahid Majroh revealed.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for this attack via its Amaq website, though both the Taliban and ISIS have carried out attacks in the capital in recent months, spreading terror and fear across Kabul.

Taliban gunmen raided the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul, killing 22 people in January. Several days later, Taliban extremists detonated an ambulance filled with explosives outside a hospital, killing nearly 100 people and injuring countless more. Around the time of these two attacks, the Islamic State set off a car bomb outside a children’s charity, killing three and injuring over two dozen others.

Less than two weeks ago, a suicide bomber killed nine people at a security checkpoint in the capital.

The frequent attacks in Kabul have led to public criticism of the Afghan government, which stands accused of seriously failing to keep the people safe and maintain security in the capital.
