Speaker of the House Paul Ryan told reporters Tuesday he has assurances that President Donald Trump will not fire special counsel Robert Mueller.
“I received assurances that his firing is not even under consideration,” Ryan told reporters at the Capitol Tuesday. “We have a system based upon the rule of law in this country, we have a justice system, and no one is above that justice system.”
The president made a series of changes over the past week that have some fearing he will pull the trigger and terminate Mueller.
Trump called Mueller out by name on Twitter Sunday, claiming the special counsel and his team of “13 hardened Democrats” are on a “WITCH HUNT.”
Why does the Mueller team have 13 hardened Democrats, some big Crooked Hillary supporters, and Zero Republicans? Another Dem recently added…does anyone think this is fair? And yet, there is NO COLLUSION!

The Mueller probe should never have been started in that there was no collusion and there was no crime. It was based on fraudulent activities and a Fake Dossier paid for by Crooked Hillary and the DNC, and improperly used in FISA COURT for surveillance of my campaign. WITCH HUNT!

A total WITCH HUNT with massive conflicts of interest!

The president hired a new lawyer Monday, Joe diGenova, former U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, to represent him on his legal team. Additionally, Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired on Friday former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who was the second in command at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Republican leadership thinks firing Mueller is a politically risky move and believe Mueller should be able to conduct his probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election without interference or obstruction.
The president reportedly decided to fire Mueller in January but receded his decision when the White House counsel threatened to step down if he went through it.
