The longest-ever rainbow beat the world record, according to the Guinness World Record ceremony Saturday.

A record-breaking eight hour and 58-minute long rainbow hit Taiwan on Nov. 30 3017, which is now officially recognized by Guinness World Records, reported the Huffington Post. The rainbow was seen at Chinese Cultural University, near Taiwan.

“It was amazing … It felt like a gift from the sky … It’s so rare!” said Chou Kun-hsuan, a professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the university. He led the project alongside Liu Ching-huang to record the rainbow. After four hours, the professors began encouraging students to take pictures and spread the word, hoping to get the recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records, BBC reported.

“When we broke the previous record after passing six hours, I was hardly able to stay seated for lunch; it was around lunchtime. I was so excited; I wanted to make sure we captured the rainbow. But then it did something even more incredible; it went on to beat the previous record by another three hours!” added Chou.

Chou noted that Taiwan’s winter microclimate makes it an ideal site to spot rainbows.  The professor added that he wanted to reach out to Taiwan’s tourism agency to encourage people to visit the country to spot beautiful long-lasting rainbows.

The previous rainbow to hold this title was a six-hour long rainbow seen at Wetherby, Yorkshire, on March 14. 1994.
