Members of Vice Media’s board of directors aren’t the only ones who think the struggling millennial-focused media company could use a new CEO — controversial co-founder Gavin McInnes agrees.
“A+E Networks CEO Nancy Dubuc is in advanced talks to take over the chief executive role at Vice Media from the company’s co-founder, Shane Smith,” after a string of sex scandals and financial difficulties have rocked the company since 2017, Variety reported.
Right-wing commentator McInnes co-founded then-print magazine Vice with Smith and Suroosh Alvi in 1994 before leaving the company because of “creative differences” in January 2008.
Finding a new CEO might not be such a bad idea, McInnes told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “I think it’s always healthy to replace the CEO every 10 years,” McInnes said. “It keeps the company from going stale.”
Smith has been CEO since the company’s founding.
Vice fell short of its 2017 revenue target by roughly $100 million — another disappointment for investors following a number of executives and other employees getting sacked for sexual misconduct.
Vice will be pulling cable channel Viceland Canada off the air following a loss of a $100 million with Rogers Communications, the company announced in January 2018.
