Winter Storms Leave Beaches Covered In Dead Starfish [VIDEO]

Tens of thousands of dead starfish washed up on a beach in Britain after two late-winter storms collided and covered Britain in snow and freezing temperatures.

The “Beast from the East” sprang out of Siberia with freezing winds that covered Europe and Storm Emma formed a vortex of 70 miles per hour winds in the Atlantic. The two collided over Britain Thursday and temperatures dropped to five degrees Fahrenheit with wind chill. Britain was covered in snow drifts and flood warnings as large waves crashed on its shores, U.K.’s The Sun reported.

After the waves had settled and the air began to clear, beaches in Britain were covered in sea-life killed by the bad weather, according to Sky News.

The scene looked “like Armegeddon,” one observer told Sky News. “It was incredible. There were starfish as far as the eye could see, there were fish in there and sea urchins.”

“We regularly see mass strandings of seabed-dwelling animals after storms, usually in winter, sometimes several times in a year,” the Marine Conservation Society posted on its website. “This year, the ‘Beast from the East’ combined with heavy seas stirred up by ‘Emma’ appears to be one of the biggest mass strandings on record for the UK.”
