Daily Caller News Foundation Editor-in-Chief Chris Bedford responded to the charge that President Donald Trump has been soft in responding to Russian meddling by listing the many ways in which the White House has eclipsed the Obama administration in dealing forcefully with the Kremlin.
“The Obama presidency got off to a real slow start on Russia,” Bedford told Fox News’ Bill Hemmer. “They were very kind for the fisrst six years, remember Obama had that great joke on Mitt Romney, he said the Cold War wants their foreign policy back.”
When Obama wouldn’t go into Syria because he didn’t want to get in a fight with Russia, Trump didn’t have that problem, when Syria broke chemical weapons laws. When Obama put sanctions down in the last two years of his presidency, the Trump administration kept those and added two more rounds and is working on a third right now. Obama closed two government compounds, Trump kept those closed, he’s added three more.
Following Bedford’s recounting of the differences between the Russia policies pursued by Obama and Trump, liberal commentator Wendy Osefo was unable to articulate Wednesday what policies “the left” would like to see Trump pursue, beyond asking that the president use the word “meddle” to describe the Kremlin’s behavior.
“We have photographic evidence as well as video evidence of [Trump] saying that Russian meddling is a hoax. So what needs to happen here is Trump needs to come out and say Russia did meddle in the election.”
Hemmer pushed back, pointing out that Trump has “basically” conceded that Russia did meddle in the election.
Bedford then suggested that Trump actually referred to collusion between his campaign and Russian officials, not election meddling in general and described former President Barack Obama’s Russia policy as more of a “tickle” compared to the “slap” that characterizes the Trump administration’s approach.
