Pelosi Breaks 100-Year Record For Continuous Speech On House Floor

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi reportedly broke a 100-year record for having the longest continuous speech on the House floor in an attempt to demand a vote on the Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program Wednesday.

Pelosi now holds the record for talking over six hours on the House floor, narrowly beating out Champ Clark of Missouri’s 1909 record, according to the House Historian’s Office. At the time, Clark spoke for five hours and 15 minutes against a tariff overhaul.

“It’s important to note that although Clark held the floor for the duration, he was repeatedly interrupted during his remarks. We’re not certain that Clark held the record for the longest speech at the time, but it is the longest we’ve been able to find on short notice,” the House Historian’s Office added.

Pelosi began speaking at 10 a.m. and refused to give up her spot at 3 p.m., saying she had “no intention of yielding her time back” as she urged Republican representatives to join with Democrats to legalize those on DACA.
