Tucker Carlson shamed the mainstream media for no longer serving as watchdogs and for failing to speak truth to power, Wednesday on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
Carlson discussed a classified memo detailing surveillance practices used by former President Barack Obama’s administration, to spy on President Donald Trump’s campaign. Carlson accused liberals of using Russia as an excuse to keep the memo secret and said the press has been complicit in hiding the truth.
“For centuries, the media has fought efforts by politicians and those in power to hide unflattering information about themselves. That was noble work,” Tucker said. “It is the reason the press is mentioned in the First Amendment. They are not doing that anymore.”
Tucker called out television anchors for pushing an agenda and using their authority to hide the contents of the memo for political reasons.
“On television today you heard famous anchors make the opposite case. They suggested that calls to release the memo are simply tactics by right-wing crazies and Vladimir Putin to undermine America because they are unpatriotic. And that is when you knew it was over,” he said. “The long end where the tradition of journalists as watchdogs holding the powerful to account. It turns out that journalists have switched teams. They are with the powerful now. They would like you to shut the hell up.”
