Police arrested a California man for homicide after he allegedly killed his mother in a tantrum over a video game, the Ceres Police Department announced.

Matthew Nicholson,28, reportedly shot his 68-year-old mother, Lydia Nicholson Thursday night because he got upset over his broken video game head set, reports Fox 40.

Police revealed that as Nicholson played video games Thursday night, he began yelling and getting agitated. When his mother went upstairs to go see what was the matter, police believe Nicholson broke his headset during an argument between the two.

Blaming his mother, Nicholson picked up a gun and fired at least four bullets, one which fatally reached his mother.

“He came out yelling something about my headset is broken or something about the headset being broken,” Ceres Police Sergeant Greg Yotsuya said. “Then grabbed a gun and started shooting.”

Lydia died at a local hospital shortly after the shooting.

Nicholson’s father tried to take the gun away from his son, prompting Nicholson to eventually flee the house in a car. Police later found him and arrested him on a homicide charge; he is currently in jail without bail.

“My mom was a wonderful person, and loved her children,” daughter Autumn Nicholson said.
