Eric Garner’s Daughter Is Brain Dead, Family Says

The daughter of police chokehold victim Eric Garner has been ruled brain dead by her doctors with almost no chance of recovering from it, her family said Thursday.

Erica Garner, 27, went into coma after suffering a cardiac arrest earlier this week. After experiencing brain damage, doctors called her family into the Woodhull Hospital to say goodbye, according to The New York Daily News.

“She’s not gone, she’s brain dead,” Garner’s mother told The New York Daily News. “Physically she is still with us.”

Previously, a friend of Garner’s alerted her Twitter followers that Garner suffered major brain damage due to a lack of oxygen to her brain.

“Cat scan shows Erica suffered major brain damage from a lack of oxygen while in cardiac arrest. Please continue to pray hard for Erica and pray for her family and kids just as much,” the tweet read.

Garner jumped into activism after her father, Eric Garner, died in police custody.
