Exec At World’s Third-Largest Smartphone Maker Detained On Bribery Suspicions

Authorities in China are reportedly investigating the world’s third-largest smartphone manufacturer and detained an executive at the company over suspicions he engaged in bribery.
Huawei Technologies, a massive tech corporation based in China, said Wednesday that police in the country have launched a probe into potential misconduct from its head of sales, reports Reuters.
“The authorities are investigating the matter, and we defer to their discretion as to what can be disclosed,” the company said, according to Reuters. “We take our business ethics extremely seriously, and have zero tolerance for corrupt behavior.”
Now China’s largest smartphone seller, Huawei has overtaken rivals like Apple, Xiaomi, and South Korean-based tech conglomerate Samsung in recent years.
The executive in question appears to have worked for other big name companies like Samsung, as well as Nokia.
An executive at a massive smartphone maker has been arrested for bribery recently.
The leader of Samsung was arrested earlier in the year for allegedly bribing a government confidante so he could permanently take over the company. As of Wednesday, prosecutors are demanding a 12-year prison sentence.
