Russia, Germany Investigate Christmas Vehicle Rammings

At least five people were killed after a passenger bus plunged into a pedestrian underpass Monday in Moscow.
The driver was arrested at the scene and police launched an investigation into whether or not the attack was deliberate. Local media have reported as many as 15 injuries in addition to the deaths, Reuters reports.
Monday was an ordinary work day in Russia as the country celebrates Orthodox Christmas in January.
A man crashed a car full of petrol canisters and lighter fluid into the headquarters of Germany’s Social Democrats (SPD) in Berlin late on Christmas Eve. Authorities originally feared a political motive behind the crash given the location.
The 58-year-old driver reportedly said he was trying to commit suicide after being taken to to the hospital.
Europe is on high alert for terror attacks this Christmas season. Germany and the United Kingdom have foiled suspected Christmas attacks in recent weeks. France has deployed close to 100,000 police and military officers to keep the streets safe during the holiday season.
The U.S. Department of State recently issued a warning to citizens planning on visiting Europe during Christmas. The travel alert will be in effect until Jan. 31.
