President Donald Trump said former Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore should concede the race when asked by reporters Friday.
“I think he should,” Trump said to a group of reporters. “He tried. As always I want to support the person running. We need the seat. We’d like to have the seat.” Trump immediately jumped to the GOP tax plan, calling it “monumental.” As Trump moved on to the next question he said, “as far as Roy Moore, yeah, I would certainly say he should.”

Trump’s comments come one day after he invited Democratic Alabama Senator-elect Doug Jones to the White House, although Trump backed Jones’ opponent, Moore, who was accused of sexually assaulting multiple females, many of whom were minors.
Jones is the first Democrat to win a Senate election in Alabama since 1992.
