In a real-life “Weeds” scenario, a 43-year-old mom was busted for a million dollar monthly operation in Pacific Palisades, Calif., Wednesday.
Similar to the TV show “Weeds,” where a suburban mother starts a marijuana dispensary business, Stephanie Smith was taken into custody after being busted by San Bernardino police after finding her large-scale marijuana operation, reported KTLA 5.
The drug kingpin (or queen) had an operation spanning over three facilities of more than 24,000 plants, an electric bill of over $67,000, and allegedly made millions per month, reported wusa9. According to police, Smith was not authorized to grow marijuana and the plants were confiscated.
“This is the largest single grow that I’ve ever seen for an indoor operation,” said Lt. Mike Madden with the San Bernardino police, adding, “There’s just floors with multiple rooms with plants. … It’s a very, very sophisticated operation.” Police added that this is usually an operation associated with a drug lord, reported the Kansas City Star.
Detectives originally received a tip about a marijuana operation in an empty building, around 80 miles west of San Bernardino. From an investigation that started in July, detectives found a large-scale operation filled with employees, guards, gates and a missing building permit.
Smith is expected to be arrested, added Madden. Eight other people were also taken into custody for suspicion of marijuana cultivation.
