NYC Attacker May Have Been Motivated By Israel Decision

New York City attacker Akayed Ullah may have been motivated to carry out his attempted suicide bombing by the recent U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a law enforcement source told CNN.
Ullah reportedly mentioned an “incursion into Gaza” to authorities after he was treated for injuries at Bellevue hospital. Ullah strapped a reported pipe bomb to his chest with zip ties and velcro and attempted to detonate it on a crowded New York City subway walkway Monday morning during the rush hour commute.
Ullah is a former New York City cab driver who entered the U.S. with his parents on a family immigrant visa in 2011 and is a lawful permanent resident who resides in Brooklyn. Authorities have not commented as to Ullah’s specific motivation but are investigating it as a terror related incident. Former police commissioner Bill Bratton told MSNBC Monday morning that the attack was “possibly ISIS inspired.”
His attack comes only a month after Uzbek immigrant Sayfullo Saipov mowed down Manhattan pedestrians in early November, marking the deadliest attack on New York City since 9/11.
