Journalists Show Utter Lack Of Sensitivity About Pence Family’s Dead Pets

Journalists are showing a lack of sensitivity and poor humor as they insinuate that the Vice President Mike Pence’s family pets may have died unnatural deaths.
Newsweek crossed a line when it headlined its Thursday article, “MIKE PENCE’S PETS WON’T STOP DYING”.
“It is unclear if the stress of Washington life is getting to the Pences’ political animals,” Newsweek reporter John Haltiwanger writes. He mentions that all of the Pence’s pets have lived very long lives but suggests their deaths are somehow mysterious or of the Pence’s own doing.
“Vice President Mike Pence’s family has lost yet another pet––a cat named Pickle––just six months after cat Oreo died,” Haltiwanger writes.

Following Karen Pence’s tweet honoring Pickle’s memory, other Twitter users began suggesting that president Trump may have had a hand in the deaths of the Pence family pets.

One Twitter user facetiously suggested that perhaps Pickle had died because Trump squeezed her too hard.
I think we know how it met its demise.
Another tweeted a photo of Trump dressed as a creepy Cheshire cat from Disney’s Alice In Wonderland.

Pence’s daughter Charlotte Pence also wrote a tribute to Pickle, writing on Instagram that when the family had first rescued Pickle 15 years ago, she was afraid and rarely let the family hold her, but she peacefully purred in their arms as she passed. “Thank you, Pickle, for teaching us about how the power of love and family can change someone,” Charlotte wrote.
The Pence family also lost their second cat Oreo in June and their dog, Maverick, in October 2016.

“Perhaps there isn’t any capital intrigue to the issue,” Haltiwanger concludes, but his humor misses the mark.
