London police evacuated a subway station Friday after reports of gun shots sparked a stampede.
The Metropolitan Police issued a statement saying they responded to an “incident” at the Oxford Circus station. People were reportedly “screaming and crying” as they left the station. Unconfirmed reports of shots being fired have circulated and police urged people to avoid the area.
“We continue to respond to an incident at Oxford Circus,” the British Transport Police said in a statement. “The station is currently closed, please avoid the area at this time. Officers are on scene.”
Scotland Yard said police responded “as if the incident is terrorist related.”
