Florida Teen Saves Life Of Cop Who Was Booking Him

One Fort Lauderdale teenager with a history of arrests was being booked again when he saved a police officer’s life. Next week, police are honoring him for his heroism.
Jamal Rutledge, 17, was in Fort Lauderdale police custody being booked when Officer Franklin Foulks collapsed this past September. Rutledge began kicking the door and calling for the police to help. Police were able to come in and perform CPR until medical help arrived, the Sun Sentinel reports.
Rutledge will honored at a city commission meeting Jan. 21. The officer is expected to return to full duty by the end of the month, Fox News reports.
After Rutledge called, police performed CPR and used a defibrillator, the Sentinel reports. Medical officials said the quick response was crucial to saving Foulks’ life that September day.
The Fort Lauderdale Police Twitter account posted a congratulations to Rutledge and the other officers involved in the effort.
